So I am putting together a KM macro to take over this function.Īs a result, my “musings” have lead me to think: This means Hazel has to scan that folder each time it runs, which is not all that much system overhead, but it occurred to me that I really "should’ have this run more like a cron job, once daily at 12:01 AM to rotate log files, since there is really no need to check the folder any other time. Hazel monitors that folder and renames log files each day to a file with the date appended, so there is a new log file every day, and after 10 days deletes a file so they don’t accumulate beyond bounds. I have a “.logs” folder where many of my homegrown scripts write log files with their operations for documentation and/or debugging. I have been working on a macro for a specific purpose. In the aftermath of David’s KM Field Guide, I’ve been playing a lot with KM, and realized that there is a use for KM’s ability to handle files in another way, however. I have not, to date, used KM for automation despite its ability to trigger “monitor a folder for changes.” I prefer as much as possible to keep a given task with one app to avoid redundancy, confusion, and conflicts. Hazel has long been my go-to app for file automation, using its rich set of tests and actions, often supplemented by my own scripts in bash, AppleScript or python. There is much overlap between these various utilities, and I am always debating whether to create an Alfred workflow or a KM macro. 1Password is needed for activation keys and passwords for everything else, and Dropbox is needed for data syncing for Alfred, KM, etc and so goes second) I am so used to typing ⌥-Space that I pretty much cannot use anyone else’s Mac or launch an app without it. In fact, Alfred is the third app I install (for those who are curious, the first two are 1Password and Dropbox, in that order. SO, if you want an ordered list, please update Alfred to 2.0.I consider Alfred, Hazel, and Keyboard Maestro to be “must installs” on every one of my Macs. Removed randomUID generator for items, as the latest version of Alfred2 makes it possible to NOT have to specify unique IDs. Serial number should show now, and 'GB' after memory size will show again.Īdded a system check for those that have multiple computers accessing one workflow folder (thanks DJay for pointing out that not everyone has only one computer). SO for MY system it now shows "iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 (iMac12,2)"įixed a couple minor issues with incorrect selectors in the script. and read!Īdded Model Identifier beside system name in top row. To access this, load Alfred Preferences, Double Click on the Workflow in the left sidebar "About This Mac", and in the window that pops up, click the Readme tab. I have included the Terminal instructions in the 'readme' tab of the Workflow. This means the permissions need to be changed on the plist. PLEASE NOTE: On SOME systems, and even on the current build of Mavericks, the plist file the workflow reads from is protected in a slightly different way. I have corrected this line in the workflow. The error also made the links to the support site and hardware specs site not function correctly. I found an error in a line of my workflow which on most systems is a lenient one, but on some results in the Human Readable Machine in line 1 of the results to simply not show up. I am leaving the Alfred 2 version alone for those who still want to use it, but, it does not support macOS Sierra.Īdded Yosemite Icon (also updated script) for those using the Developer Previews so the System Version line shows the correct image.Īdded Mavericks Icon (also updated script) for those using the Developer Previews so the System Version line shows the correct image. Made a new version for Alfred 3 removing older Operating Systems to fall in line with what Alfred 3 supports. This is a rather big update in terms of hardware icon support and I apologize for not doing it sooner folks!Īdded icon and updated script for macOS High Sierra.Īdded Macmini7,1 to xml for icon support.Īdded icon and updated script for macOS Sierra. This is just for Alfred 3 and the new filename is "AboutThisMac_2018.alfredworkflow", so make sure you are running the latest. This brings the hardware list up to date as of macOS 10.13.2 (17C205) Updated the 'HardwareIcons.xml' to include all new hardware found/referenced for icons of machines. OPT+ENTER will take you to Apple's hardware specifications website (based on your hardware). SHIFT+ENTER will paste selected entry to front most app.ĬTRL+ENTER will take you to Apple's support website (based on your hardware). The most current version can now be found on GitHub with very special thanks to xilopaint for continuing and modernizing the original workflow.īelow are my older versions which I will now leave AS-IS for reference:įor those that need to see/copy info from the system.įN+ENTER will copy the selected entry to the clipboard.
